Australian: Sheep unchanged; lambs, best brands o'/jjd, fair quality 5%d; beef, forequarters 3V 2 d, hindquarters 3%d. South American: Sheep and lambs unchanged; beef, frozen forequarters 3%d, hinquarters 4d, chilled forequarters 3y 2 d, hindquarters 4y 2 d.
WOOL SALES. London, July 21. At the wool sales 150,473 bales were catalogued and 136,532 sold. A splendid selection of greasy crossbred was offered yesterday. Competition was keen and prices very hard. Merinos were Unchanged. The following were the prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips named:—Tekamru, top price lid, average 10% d; Abergvle, 12'/ 3 d and ll%d; Roelesljy, 21% d and~2o%d; YVaiau, 11 y 3 d and 10y 2 d; Delta, and 10% d.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The following is the High Commissioner's cablegram, under date London, July 20 (quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot): •General; —The strike continues and deliveries are very much delayed. Mutton.—The market is quiet, with less demand, and prices have slightly declined for all grades. Canterbury 4%d, North Island 3%d. Lamb.—The market is quiet and stocks on hand are heavy. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury 5%d. Beef. —The market is depressed, the weather lately having been unfavorable to the sale of beef. New Zealand hindquarters 4>/ s d, forequarters 3%d.
Butter.—The market is steady, with, good demand for best quality. Choicest New Zealand 115s, Australian 100s, Siberian 104s, Danish 1225. Cheese. —The market is dull. New Zealand white Gss Gd to 60s 6d.
Hemp. —The markef, is fair, with more inquiry, active at the advance. Spot New Zealand good fair £24 15s, fair £23 las. Fair current Manila £24; forward shipment about the same price. The output from Manila for tlie week was 24.000 bales. Kauri Gum.—The market is steady, with moderate demand. Dark brown, selected rescraped, 120s to 100s; dark brown three-quarter scraped, 80s to 90a; dark brown chips and drossy. 30s to 40s; rescraped pale amber, £lO to £l2; three-quarter pale scraped, £7 'to £8: diggers' chips, good, 45s to 50s. There were 220 cases offered and 213 sold. The stock is 383 tons. Wool.—The market remains firm. The River Plate shipments received during June, 1912, compared with those for June. 1911. were as follows:—London, mutton 102,132 carceses (01,597); lamb, Liverpool, 104,237 carcases (82,084); Hull, 11,534 (1818) Southampton, 10,237 (23,098); total, 234,141 (160,G97). In .Tune, 1911. the* totals were: Mutton 292,908; lamb, 115,807.
THE MEAT MARKET. Messrs Dalgetv and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated July 18: Frozen meat—The market is weak. Since our last wire, lamb is lower by from %d to %d, but prices for mutton are unchanged. Beef—Owing to heavy arrivals of chilled beef, prices for frozen beef are y ß d to V ; d lower. Wool—The sales continue active. Competition is brisk and buying is general from all quarters.
