KILLED BY A BOAR.
FARMER'S TERRIBLE DEATH. Auckland, July .10. Xews has been received by his relatives in Auckland of the tragic death of 'Mr. Allen Smith, near Traralgen, Victoria. While feeding pigs oil his farm, a boar broke loose from its pen and charged Mr. Smith, knocking him down. The animal attacked him fiercely and drove its tus : ks into his thigh, indicting terrible injuries. The unfortunate man struggled desperately to free himself, and managed to regain his feet. He ran as fast as his wounds would permit to the house, the boar charging after him. His cries for assistance were heard by his wife, and she seized a gun and killed the animal, which had chased her husband right to the gate. Everything possible was done for the injured man, but an artery had been severed, and despite all attempts to stop the bleeding by means of ligatures he died within a few hours. Mr. Smith was only 35 years of age, Flo had sent a letter to say that he would at the end of the present month visit his mother, Mrs. G. Smith, who resides in Salisbury street, Richmond. Deceased was a brother to Messrs. W. D. and Alfred Smith, Mrs. Herring and Mrs. Ilotham (of Grey Lynn), and Mrs. G. Walker, of Kingsland.
