ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A GUARD INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. James Curran, 42 years of age, a guard on Saturday evening's train from Ashhurton to Christchurch, met with a rather serious accident whilst shunting trucks Jit Islington. As the trucks wer» in motion Curran got jammed between two, and sustained considerable injuries to his chest. He was taken to the hospital, and this afternoon his condition was reported to be satisfactory. AN INJURED JOCKEY. Christchurch, Last Night. Retter, the jockey who was injured at Riccarton some time ago, was reported to-day to be much brighter. It appears that he has not regained complete consciousness, and is only conscious at times. KILLED AT A FOUNDRY. Christchurch, Last Night. Charles Muschamp., 35 years o£ age, a married man, was killed'at Anderson's foundry, at Lyttelton, this morning. He ' was engaged mending a broken belt, and after putting the fastenings on the broken ends of the belt mounted a ladder. While passing one end of the belt over and the other under the shaft part of his clothing became entangled with a key on the shaft. Muschamp was torn from the ladder and carried over the shaft. The engine was stopped as soon as possible, but Muschamp was dead. He leaves a wife and two children. The ' Coroner recorded a verdict of accident- ! ally killed. i
DROWNING FATALITY. Gisborne, Saturday. Patrick Wallace, a Waiapu Counf.v employee, was drowned yesterday 'while attempting to cross a flooded river at Te Araroa. The body has not been recovered.
