THE WHEAT MARKET. , By Cable—Press Association —Copyright, j Received 19, 10.10 p.m. ' Sydney, July 10. J In sympathy witii London reports,! wheat has dropped to 4s O'/gd and 4s Id. Very little is doing, excepting in futures. Quotations are practically nominal. N.Z.L. & M.A. CO., LTD. & REDUCED. _ The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited and Reduced, Stratford branch, report as follows: On Monday, 15th inst., we held a clearing sale on account of Mr. John Neal, on the Monmouth road, Stratford. There was a fair attendance of buyers, in spite of the very wet weather. " There were only a few sundries that were sold at satisfactory prices. Turkeys realised 5s each, fowls, Is fid, ducks 2s 6d, geese 4s, chaffcuttcr 555, tank G7s Od, milk cans •22s each. The dairy herd, which included cows bred by Mr. W. Linn, was sold at very satisfactory prices. Nearly 3 purebred Jersey cows realised £l2 ids to £ls 10s, while cows showing Holstein brought from £lO 10s to £l2 10s; ordinary cows, first grade, realised £8 10s! to £l2, and cows of inferior quality sold at from £5 10s to £7 15s. On Tuesday, 10th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in conjunction with Messrs. W. H. H. Young and Co., but owing to the exceedingly rough morning store stock did not come forward in usual numbers. Bidding, however, was f keen on yearlings, and any fat and forI ward cows yarded. Prices were as fol- - lows:—Yearling steers, 43s Gd to 47s 6d; i yearling heifers, £2 15s to £3 Ss; for nice heifers showing Jersey. A nice line r of springing heifers showing Jersey breedII ing realised £9 ss, being purchased by t a local buyer. Twenty-month empty 15 heifers realised '£3 10s to £3 I7s Od; store cows realised from £2 10s to £3 7s ; forward cows, £3 15s to £4 ss; fat 1 cows, £5 13s to £6 13s 6d. ' On the same day we held dairy stock r sales on account of Mr. M. T. Phillips (. and Mr. James Graham. Buyers were in a attendance in good numbers, and bidding f was keen. We offered Mr. Graham's herd j first, and considering that they had been on the road from Matau since Sunday . morning, prices realised were very good. For first-grade cows prices were from t £8 10s to £lO 15s, and for inferior cows £4 to £7 ss. All of Mr. Phillip's herd i were cows showing Holstein and Jersey > strains, showing down well and guaran--3 teed sound, prices for the best and earlir est cows being £9 10s to £l2 10s, and 1 for backward cows £7 to £9. ) During the week business has been 1 brisk in private sales. The demand for fat wethers is good, but as there are very few offering, prices have hardened considerably. Prices for fat wethers, 15s to 17s Od; fat sheep, mixed 13s Od to 15s; mixed hoggets, 10s 0d to 12s; ewes, ' l'fis; lambs, 10s fid to lis 6d. There is still a good demand for good dairy cattle, and business in this line has been good, prices for dairy cows being £7 ss, £7 7s, £lO 10s, £ll. Springing heifers £0 0s to £8 Bs, mixed yearlings 36s ' , to 50s, 20 months heifers £3 to £4 for . a nice line of Shorthorn heifers. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency C 0.,, Ltd., Wellington, have re- , ceived the following cablegram from . their London house, .under date, July i 17Wheat.—We quote 39s 6d Austra- • lian cargo.
