DISTRICT NEWS.

LINCOLN" ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Considering that we bad a wet spring and summer we were of the opinion that we were in for a fairly dry winter, but such has not been the ease so far. For the past six weeks we have had very little sunshine, and at times exceptionally rough weather, which has had a very detrimental efleet on the roads. The Everett road is now in a deplorable state. If the right thing bad been done this road would not lie in the condition it is, considering it is only five or six miles from luglewoocl, with metal and gravel all along the road. A lady residing on this road had a very trying experience one day last week —an experience that would have been hard to beat even in the worst parts of the backblocks, and that after paying rates for 20 years. The Moa Road Board will no doubt get in early and not allow such a state of affairs to exist another winter. The School Committee held its usual meeting oil Wednesday night, when a fair amount of business was transacted. Accounts amounting to £lO 10s were passed for payment. This is a large amount for a small school, especially as we have other small amounts every quarter to meet. The annual capitation grant last year was £O. It speaks well for the committee, and the assistance they get from the, householders generally, besides which the committee often give free labor. I was wondering what state these schools would be in if there were no committees. I hear that we are about to lose another of our old settlers in Mr. A. \V. Yeates, who has sold his farm and is going to IT;\lconibe.
