Dance.—Misses Bedford and Kirkb\' pupils gave a most enjoyable "long niglii last Tuesday evening in the Brougham street hall, ami although the elements were against them a good number assembled. Fookes, prunelle-colored silk, finished with black satin trimmings; Mrs. A. MacDiarmid, pale blue brocade, relieved with cream lace; Mrs. A. Jones, pastel j! blue and white voile; Mrs. Courtney, pale Idove grey silk, veiled in black net; Sirs. Eberlet, pretty pale blue crepe de chine, 1 with over dress of dainty cream lace; Miss Wade, periwinkle blue silk, with revers of black silk; Miss Hempton, moss green silk, relieved with cream laee. Gramaphone evening.—Last Thursday evening Mrs. Chaney gave a very pleasant musical evening, interspersed with pianoforte solos by Miss Constance Lea- 1 ! tham. Amongst those present were: < Mrs. Bewley, Miss Bewley, Miss C. Leatham, Miss Terry. Miss K. McAllum, Miss Mathews, Miss G. Dodgshun, Misses Bedford, Dr. Suttee and Rev. J. Wilkinson. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. Cliarteris. of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Colvile. Miss Winifred Webster, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. J. Morton, of Napier, is expected home early next week. Miss Wade, who has "been on a visit to Wellington, has returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. McAllum and Miss Elsie McAllum returned by the mail train last night, the latter having just recovered from a serious illness in the Christchurch hospital, of which she was a member of the nursing staff.
