The course for the rowing contests is on an inlet of the sea, and the water,! though fresh, is dead. The course is somewhat shorter than that at Ilenley,, and the finish Ls difficult. There is a big sweep round to the short finishing straight, through the narrow arches of the bridge. In the first heat Germany beat France in fimin. 45sec. In the second heat, Australians v. Gothenburg, the former, who drew the outside position, got away smartly and led Gothenburg at .500 metres. Thence the Australians gradually increased their lead throughout, and the contest was a mere procession. Berlin beat Hungary in fimin. 32see. New College beat Norway in fimin. 42V«sec., and Leander beat Canada, after a keen race, in Gmin. 22 l-ssec. Leander and Australia meet to-mor-row. GERMAN CRITICISM. Berlin, July 17.
