FOOTBALL.
The play-off between the Clifton and Stratford senior teams, which is set down for decision at Inglewood this afternoon, should attract a large attendance, providing only that the weather condescends to be even moderately kind, of which, howevei, at the time of writing, there does not appear much prospect. An interesting and exciting match should be the result to decide the supremacy of the Northern Thursday Division. The teams have already met on three occasions, once at Waitara, and twice at Stratford (the last time under vile weather conditions), and the home team has been successful on each occasion by a try to nil. To-day the deciding match takes place on neutral ground, which is so handily situated that residents of New Plymouth,' Stratford and Waitara, who wish to witness the match, can leave by the midday train, so no doubt each team will have a big following of supporters. As the match will start promptly at 2.30, the spectators will be able to return here by the train leaving Inglewood at 4.20 p.m. As the Inglewood footbafl ground is by no means an ideal wet weather ground, it has been arranged to play the matcli in the Sports ground, which should enable the match to be played on the best possible conditions, so far as the boisterous weather will allow. Mr. G. Hopkins will referee.
