WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the above Board there were present: Mr. J. Connett (chairman), Messrs. Hall, Lepper, Surrey and Turnbull. Correspondence was read from Messrs. Weston and Weston, requesting the board to give Messrs. Smith and Fawcett a title to the land sold them on the Kelly road deviation; from the Department of Internal Affairs, re special order of Bertrand road loan; from Mr. Wright, i accepting position of toll-gate keeper of the Wortley road toll-gate; from Millar's West Australian Hardwood Co., stating that the timber for Manutahi east road bridge could not be delivered before the end of August, owing to the shifting of cargo on the, steamer; from the Valuer-General, stating that alterations to roll would be forwarded in a day or two; from Advances Office, stating that the charges on a twenty-year loan would be £7 3s per annum; and from the Audit Office, returning balancesheet duly certified. Surfaceman Palmer repotted that only eight yards of metal had been put on the Waitara road, the Taranaki County Council having stopped the contractor carting. The drain running into Mr. J. Purdie's had been shifted, and some willows cut by the Cross road bridge. Some repairs to Te Arei road by the steel bridge had been done with metal dumped by Mr. Montefiore. Surfaceman Giddy reported that he had been cleaning water-tables on the Manutahi wrsl,' : Corbett, Richmond, Wortley, Brown, Mahoetahi and Te Arei roads. Messrs. Haskell and Co. will eart metal for repairs to Manutahi west road as soon as the weather permits.
The chairman reported that he had arranged with Mr. Luxton to fence the drain on the Karaka road, and to box the sides where necessary. He also thought it would be as well to confine the contractors to one portion of the road when they are carting boulders. Mr. Hall reported that he had seen Mr. Rickard re the pipes required opposite his gate on the Richmond road, and G4ft of 9-inch pipes would be wanted It was decided to leave the matter in Mr. Hall's hands to report at next meeting as to the advisability of putting pipes in.

Timber was authorised to be procured for the Wortley road toll-gate, the surfaceman to 'erect same.
Tenders were received for the boxing timber of Manutahi east road bridge, but owing to the timber not being stacked separately, it was resolved to invite fresh tenders, a minimum price of £2 10s to be put on the timber. The supply of a further 50yds of metal for repairs to Manutahi west road was authorised, the chairman to arrange with Haskell and Co. re delivery of same. The resolution making a general rate of Mid was confirmed, and special rates as required. Accounts amounting to £?9 were passed for payment and the board adjourned.
