MUNICIPAL MATTERS.

To the Editor. I Sir, —Much has been written and a deal more said on the unwarranted waste of public money by our Borough | Council, but I consider the Currie ; street episode quite surpasses anything ; that has been perpetrated for many ! years past. An ordinary vehicle caa [hardly get through the mud and ruts |to my residence in upper Brougham [street; in fact, the traps have been comI peJled to take to the footpath, although I I am only a very short distance from Devon street centre. There is no channeling or kerbing, and yet we hare all this waste in Currie street. Nbt only are the Council wasting public funds, but I see they are still of opinion that the property owners must likewise be compelled to spend a proportionate waste. The folly, at a heavy cost, of ripping up good paved channeling and solid stone lcerbing, that was good for the next fifty years;, calls for severe censure, and I think something is needed in the way of a public demonstration to stay proceedings before any further action is taken by the Council in compelling property owners to moTe back verandahs along the street front. The Council should devote its attention in directions where people have a difficulty in getting vehicles to their property.— I am, etc., C. T. MILLS.
