DISTRICT NEWS.

UPPER MANGOREI. j (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of milk suppliers was called for Friday evening last for the purpose of hearing the proposals of Mr. W. J. Neilson, a cheesmaker of Omata. Unfortunately that gentleman did not turn up, and the meeting, which was a good one (almost every settler being represented), decided to meet again on Monday evening next, and give Mr. Neilson ( another opportunity of meeting them.'S Mr. Herbert, the convener of the meeting, ' pointed out that the meeting was called as the result of a meeting held in the Carrington road school on the previous Monday, at which Mr. Neilson offered to erect and equip a cheese factory on the new cross road between Carrington and Mangorei roads on the expectation of getting support from Mangorei. This, the speaker pointed out, would undermine the present creamery, so this meet- J ing was called to hear Mr. Neilsou's proposals, and then decide whether they would support him, form a co-operative cheese factory of their own, or remain as at present, as the supply was insuffi-. dent to allow of any split on the ques-' 5 tion. Arguments for and against cheese ( J

were indulged in. At the quarterly meeting of the Lower ; Mangorei school committee, held on ; Thursday evening, it was decided to ap- ' ply to the Education Board for the cost of a new gate and gate posts to connect : the school grounds with Mr. Stanton's?' paddock, this being the only means of vehicular access to the ground. The '■ present pathways were a» source of an- ■ noyance to Mr. Stanton and to all con- ■ eeriied. The milk supply has fallen so low as . to necessitate the closing of the cream- / ery, a thing that has not happened for several years. The cause this year is j that several suppliers have sold their !• herds. I
