WAITARA NEWS.
BOY SCX)UTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Chief Scoutmaster J. 11. Sullivan and .coutmaster McGahey, accompanied by ■everal Boy Scouts from New Plymouth, visited Waitara last Friday, when a very pleasant and instructive evening was spent with the Waitara Boy Scouts. Chief Scoutmaster J. R. Sullivan, having ■been introduced to the Waitara Scoutmaster, Mr. G. H. Mellor, at once stated the object of the visit, namely, to have the Scout movement in Waitara placed 011 a sound footing, and in doing so stated what the chief objects were, namely, to assist the boys to live a purer and nobler life, and to encourage them to cast aside all that was base and evil. The movement had been the means of doing a great work in this direction. It ' havim' been -decided tlvat the name of ■the contingent at Waitara be officially known as the "Waitara Boy Scouts," the following leaders and corporals were appointed: —Scoutmaster, G. H. Mellor; Patrol Xo. 1, leader, F. Klenner; corporal, E. Proctor; Patrol No. 2, leader, W. Mackenzie; corporal, R. Telfar; Patrol Xo. 3, leader, A. Vaughan; corporal, D. Mellor. The names given to the patrol are: Xo, 1, '•Horse"; No. 2, "Wekft"; No. 3, "Cats." The appointment of sergeant was left over in the meantime. The oath having been fully explained by Chief Scoutmaster J. R. Sullivan, the boys then in turn took it. The boys will provide their own uniforms. A short display of flag signalling was given by a member of the New ■Plymouth contingent, after which a hearty vote of thanks was given to Chief Scoutmaster Sullivan and his boys.
