It lias now 'been decided that Irish cattle and pigs shall be allowed to be sent to certain ports for immediate slaughter. At Glasgow, Birkenhead and Avonmouth only a thousand cattle and jeven thousand sheep are sold weekly, the metropolitan market representing one-fourth of the supply from home sources. The effect on the general supply will not be serious, in consequence of the facilities for slaughtering in local centres.
A SERIOUS DEVELOPMENT. Received 9, 11.25 p.m. London, July 9. A most serious development of foot and mouth disease has been discovered at St. John's market. Liverpool. The offal from Waterford contained an affected head. In the House of Commons Mr. Russell denied the sensational story that the head was mutilated to conceal the disease. All the heads of beasts shipped at Waterford had the tongues removed for sale separately.
