BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. Last night'g meeting of the Borough Council was attended by the following: Hi* Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. W. Browne), and Crs. Morey, Mannix, Ambury, Clarke, Stocker, Buxton, Buttimore, Jackson, Kibby, and Gilbert. A month's leave of absence was granted to Cr. Hartnell, who is away at Auckland. Permission was granted to the St. Aubyn Town Board to obtain about 80 additional yards of gaol metal to finish metalling the centre of South road to Cutfleld road.
Two owners of shop property in Currie street, Messrs. T. Colson and C. Buchanan, asked the Council to allow their verandahs to overhang the channelling, with the object of only necessitating their removing the posts of the same. In moving that the request be refused, Cr. Buxton said that the Council had enough "lop-eared work" in the town already.
Cr. Morey intimated that he was against the whole proposal of shifting back verandahs. To his mind it would cause needless expense both to owners and the Council. At present the Council had more streets than it had money to keep them in order. The motion was carried. On the motion of Cr. Ambury, a committee was set up, with power to act, to go into the question of purchasing a tarsprinkler, which is provided for in the estimates. According to the borough engineer, one could be landed at New Plymouth for £O3. REPORTS ADOPTED. The reports of the borough engineer, Works Committee, electrical engineer, Electric Liglit Committee. Reserves Committee, Abattoirs Committee, Carnegie Institute Committee, and Tramways Committee were adopted without amendment.
