SPEECH BY MR. LONG. By Cable—Frees Association—Copyright, j London, July 7. Mr. Walter Long, at Fenby, Stratford, said that Mr. Lloyd George's idea. that the land was shackled with the chains of feudalism was absolute nonsense and unscrupulous and mischievous. He commented on the gravity of evacuating the Mediterranean, and hoped that after the manoeuvres the battleships would return to the Mediterranean. Germany's Naval Law of 1912 had increased the readiness of thefleet available for immediate, - aK [' lon D y SO "pel l cent,' She had now twentynine battleships available for instant action in the North Sea, whereas Britain had only twenty-seven. If the Government took the nation unreservedly into its confidence, whatever sacrifies were necessary would cheerfully be made.
