THE KAITANGATA STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Wednesday. The position with regard to "the Otago coal mining industry is critical, and there will be no surprise if a crisis occurs any day. This week the Federation Union have submitted demands to the yarious mines, together with p, request for a conference. To-day the representatives of the Kaitang'ata coal directorate visited Kaitangata to meet the representatives of the Federation Union. Tt is stated that the directors are willing to discuss the fixing up of an agreement, but only on condition that such agreement come under the abiding jurisdiction of the Arbitration Court. As only a very small section of the Otngo-Southland miners favor arbitration, a deadlock seems practically inevitable.
