MANAWATU. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Nigifc. The Rugby match' Hawke's Bay v. Manawatu was played here in dull but splendid football weather, before about 1600 spectators. The game was fast and keenly contested. Hawke's Bay were too strong in the backs, and possessed a superior three-quarter line. The Manawatu forwards were up to the standard. Hawke's Bay won by 17 points to 8. Brown and Eggleton scored tries for Manawatu, and Barry, Casey, Porohiwi, O'Neill and Blake for Hawke's Bay. The first spell ended with Hawke's Bay 8 points and Manawatu 3. Most of the second spell was played in Manawatu territory, WELLINGTON GAMES. Wellington, Last Night. The first series of matches in the second round of the senior Rugby championship were played yesterday in very cold and squally weather:—Results: Oriental 9, beat Wellington C; Athletic 15, beat St. James 3; Petone 20, beat Poneke 6; ■ Melrose 11, beat Victoria College 0. The New Zealanders met tho Queens- ' landers on the Brisbane cricket ground yesterday afternoon. The weather was fine but dull, and the attendance was fair. The teams were as follows: New Zealand: Full-back, Hardgraves; three-quarters, Gilmour, Weston and Curran; halves, Carlaw, Bradley and Barber; forwards, Rukutai, Dunning, King, H. Hayward, M. Hayward, and Francis.
Queensland: Full-back, Duff in; threequarters, Wood-head, Lynch, Quinn, and Hooker; five-eighths, W. Fa.rns worth; half-back, Heidke; forwards, Fa/hey, Collins, Mckay, Hedley, Meekin, and Schatz. . Queensland won the toss and Francis ticked off. Queensland held their own in the scrums. The game had been iiv progress for half an hour when Bradley* passed to Weston, who transferred tq Gilmour, and the latter scored. Hardgreaves failed to convert. At half-time the score was New Zealand 3, Queansland nil.
