THE TITANIC DISASTER
| LORD MERSEY'S SUMMING UP. j By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 28, 9.30 p.m. London, June 28. At the Titanic Enquiry, Lord Mersey remarked that the collision occurred in the region mentioned in the Mesaba's wireless message, but apparently the message did not reach the Titanic's bridge; otherwise the disaster would not s have occurred unless there had been gross carelessness. Apparently, the operator Phillips was unable to judge of the importance of the message, or was too busy to attend to it. There was no j evidence of Mr. Ismay's interference )' with the navigation of the steamer. He added that he was satisfied that no record passage was being made, and that ' the crew behaved extremely well. i '
