Mr. W. T. Coad, senior mail clerk at the New Plymouth Post Office, will leave for Blenheim two or three weeks hence to take up the position of «hief •lerk. The Inglewood Borough Council has resolved to accord Commissioner Richards, the Dominion Chief of the Sanation Army, a civic reception on the occasion of his visit to Inglewood. It is understood that Dr. Truby King and probably the Hon. Dr. Collins will give evidence in Wellington before the Education Commission on the subject of the primary system of education, and its bearing on the health of children. Mr. P. Uickey, representing tho Federation of Labor, left Wellington for Australia by the Moana yesterday. His mission is to approach 'the Australian unions with the object of securing financial assistance in connection with the Waihi strike and the Reefton dispute. Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P., celebrated his seventy-fourth birthday on Tuesday. Mr. Buchanan was born 'in Argyllshire in 1838. He was educated at a parish school at Greenock. He emigrated to Melbourne in 1875. After six years of station life in Victoria, he came to Now Zealand, and for some years occupied a leasehold farm in North' Canterbury. In 1871 he purchased Tupurupuru station, and has resided there ever since.
