The weather was cloudy and misty, but six thousand spectators were present at Lords when the first test match between England and Australia was resumed. When play closed on Monday Warner had just lost, his wicket. His place was taken by Woolley, who accompanied Fry (not out 24) to the wickets. Emery and Hazlitt were the bowlers. The two batsmen add«d 30 runs in 20 minutes, bringing Fry's score to 41 and Woolley's to 8. Fry showed only weak defence. With the score at 241 for four wickets, the rain came down and play was abandoned. During the afternoon the weather cleared a little, and there was some sunshine about 5 o'clock. At 5.30 the wicket was re-inspected, but it appeared too wet for play, and stumps were drawn at 5.45.

The South Africans declared their innings closed when they >had lost nine wickets for 326—Faulkner (not out) 145, Ward 43, Mitchell 27, Carter 0, Cox (not out) 8. Scotland lost six wickets for 74.
