S.M. COURT. I (!»«■ Our Ow» C«rr«ip«nd«ttt.) Before Mr. Crooke, S.M., judgment by ■ default in the following civil cases was given.—Thompson v. T. Falconer, judgment for costs, os; Ford v. Manumate Kingi, claim £l2 10s, costs 10s; T. S. Drynan v. S. Bevan, claim £3 12s, and possession- of house within one week, with 10s costs. POLICE BUSINESS. 1 Otto McKoy, for being drunk while j in charge of a horse at Wai-iti, pleaded guilty and was fined 10s and costs 7s. —.lames Smith, on a similar charge, was fined IDs and casts 15s.—Graham Watson pleaded guilty to using obscene language at Urenui, and was fined £2 and costs, 15s. —James Miles, who did not appear, for creating a disturbance at Urenui, was fined 20s and costs 15s.— C. Stockman, with whom the previous defendant had been fighting, was fined 20.s and costs 12s. The above cases were the aftermath of a picnic held on Wai-iti beach last month. Constable Lapouple said that he desired to point out to the Court that so far as the promoters of the picnic I were concerned they had nothing to do J with the provision of the liquor. They j were very Tespectable farmers, but many 1 people carried a bottle of whisky to the j picnic, and the day being very cold it seemed to have had a bad effect on those j drinking. For allowing a horse to' wander at i large on Okoke road, Charles Hundley was fined 10s and costs, 26s 6d. Mr. Grey appeared for the Clifton County Council, which body laid the charge. , The death of Mrs B. C. Lawrence on 1 Monday evening, came as a shock to the [community, her demise being almost ] eudden. Her illness lasted only a week, j when the end unexpectedly came. The ; trouble was pneumonia, supervening on : j fatty degeneration of the heart. The ' I deceased was a daughter of the late J. ; Colesley, and had spent practically the 1 whole of her life in Waitara. Her husband and a son and daughter are left to mourn the loss.
