J SUSPECTED OPIUM POISONING. j By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. John McKic, veterinary surgeon, died at Waiuku on Saturday. Taihape, Monday. A railway porter, named A. Old, was killed at Ohakune station on Saturday evening while shunting. Evidence given at the inquest on Oeorge William Scars, «gei «low« 9 that he deliberately committed suicide bv inhaling gas. He turned on the gas ring and, covering his head with a cloak, inhaled the ejas till he died. He 'had been mentally affected for some time. SUICIDE OF AN ASYLUM PATIENT. Wellington. Mondav. An inquest was held to-dav on John Charles Wilkinson, who wis found hanging in Happy Valley. His widow stated that her 'husband had been suffering for some time from mental trouble, and since being discharged from the asylum was under a delusion that he would be sent back there. lie ; was always thinking of suicide. A verdict of death while of unsound mind was returned.

MYSTERIOUS DROWNING FATALITY Gore, Monday. A mysterious drowning fatality occurred at Waikaia this morning. Edward MeMillen, a resident of Upper Nevis, oati'o to Waikaia ten davs ago to look into certain mining speculations. He visited a friend last night and left for his hotel at 10 o'clock. There was no trace of McMillen this morning, but his body was found in the Waikaia river several miles below the township. McMillen was in good circumstances, and the affair is surrounded by mystery. The river is some distance from, the " hotel. RUN OVER BY A GOAL TRUCK. West,port, Last Night. Harry Thomasen, a platelayer, was j run over by a full truck of coal on< the Denniston incline this morning. Both I legs were amputated below the knee.
