The South Wales team had lost two wickets for 34 when stumps were drawn. The South African scores were:— Tailored 10, Taylor 32, Nourse 22, Faulkner 2, Snooke 30. Strieker 09, Mitchell 30, Pegler 79. Ward (not out) 30, Cox 1, Carter 23; sundries 23. AUSTRALIA v. SOMERSET. London, June 20. The match Australia v. Somerset was begun in showery weather and with a small attendance. The wicket was wet. Daniell won the toss and Somerset went to the wickets, but were unable to cope with Minnett and Matthews, who bowled unchanged. Bisgood was the only one to reach double figures. Braund and Daniell were caught by Webster behind the wickets, standing back. Somerset were di»missed before lunch. Minnett took two wickets in his first over, and at fifteen repeated the performance. Daniell, Robson and Sutton were dismissed in six overs for two runs. The Australians responded with 184. Macartney was at the wickets for 60 minutes and played a faultless innings. The century took 85 minutes, and the innings lasted 155 minutes. Robson had a. fine average for seven wickets, only one of which was bowled. In Somerset's ser '■•.-. 1 innings, Emery and Minnett opened the bowling, and Daniell and Hardy wen; safely negotiating it when stumps were drawn with no wickets down for 15—Daniell 5, Hardy 9. At last night's meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council it was decided to abandon the proposal to send a New Zealand team to Australia next season.
