GOLF.

■ -<«» NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. To-day's match is a reverse medal handicap for Mr. E. P. Webster's prize. Any who do not wish to compete in this 'match, but who want to play on the links, must play in the reverse order, so as not to interfere with competitors or make play dangerous. Special tees will be marked for to-day's play. Last Saturday was another most disappointing day from a golfer's point of view, as the heavy showers interfered considerably with the play and made the greens so soft that they' were soon cut up. In spite of the adverse conditions Messrs Ward and Glasgow returned the 'good score of 3 up on bogey in the pairs' 'best-ball match. After the end of this month, the charge 'for afternoon tea will be fourpence, instead of threepence, per cup. TARAHUA CLUB. A mixed foursomes match will be played to-day. The drawings, as posted, should ensure a keen contest. The new green at "-Tit-.bits" is now open and is playing very well under the circumstances. Several new tees have been made, and are an improvement on the former ones. No weather, it is often said, is too bad for golfers, and apparently with this view in their minds, a party from the Tarahua Club journeyed to Inglewood last week. i A start had been made round the links, |'but when three parts round it was decided that, after all, there were certain days on which it was impossible even to play golf. The party got a real drenching, but their Inglewood friends were ■equal to the occasion and managed to fit their visitors up in dry clothing.
