SUPREME COURT

BLENHEIM SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Prew Association. Blenheim, Last Night. In the Supreme Court the grand jury brought down true bills against Bi'nley and Walsh in connection with the telegraph betting cases, and delivered the following presentment: "That as bookmaking and bookmakers in the present Btate of the law are illegal, steps should he taken to prevent the Telegraph Department being utilised by bookmakers and their clients to carry 'on betting." Charles Colin Walter Wilkan, aged 25, for stealing a cheque and forging an endorsement thereon, was found guilty, with a recommendation to mercy, on account of prisoner not understanding the gravity of the offence. The Judge deferred sentence till the morning. A charge of conspiring to defraud Scott & Martindale and Boss & Bradshaw by the use of telegrams, against Edwin John Walsh and John Vernon Binley, is proceeding. The latter is a telegraph operator, and altered the names of horses on telegrams endorsed by Walsh to winners of races.
