SCARCITY OF TEACHERS
A DUNEDIN SUGGESTION. By Telegraph— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Dunedin Education Board this morning resolved that the Board was in complete accord with the Southland Board as to the pressing need for the adoption of some .effective means of removing the existing scarcity of fully qualified teachers, in order that the efficiency of country schools may be maintained and improved, but while freely admitting that the suggestion made to that end is worthy of consideration, the Board is of opinion that the requirements of the case could be better met by making provision for training a larger number of teachers within the Dominion, until such time as the present demand is met. The Board believes that the ultimate result of a pursuance of such a course would prove more satisfactory, inasmuch as the teachers would be specially trained to meet the exigencies of the Dominion.
