■■ -a*~ Mr. David Jones lias been appointed Opposition organiser in the South Island. Captain and Mrs. Liddiard, of Waitara, are leaving Home for Waitara by the P. and 0. boat about the end of the month. Captain Liddiard has not, unfortunately, regained his eyesight. I Captain Fullerton, of the Otago Boys' | High School, has accepted the command of the team of New Zealand senior cadets that is to visit Canada shortly. The youths are at present undergoing instruction at Trentnam. Second Lieutenant B. C. Kirk, from the N.Z, Garrison Artillery, has been appointed second lieutenant* in the 11th Taranaki Regiment. Mr. G. L. Rogers has also been appointed second lieutenant in the 11th Regiment. Second Lieutenant G. W. Tayler has been appointed for service with the Senior Cadets.
Mr. Joseph Pennington, of Inglewood. passed away this morning, after a short illness. The deceased gentleman was one of the old time veterans, having seen some sixteen or seventeen years* service. He was a Grenadier Guard, and had the Crimea medal (four clasps), and the Turkish and New Zealand medals. .On St. Peter's Day (June 29), an Auckland boy, the Rev. Wilfrid Gore Browne, son of a late Governor of New Zealand, will be consecrated Anglican Bishop of Eimberley, South Africa. The Standing Committee of the Auckland Diocese is arranging to send a cablegram of congratulation to the distinguished Aucklander from the city and diocese of his birth.
