ENTERTAINMENTS

BLASCHECK. ; There was a fair attendance at the Theatre Royal last night to greet Mr. J Blascheek and Miss' Mildred. Wrighton, on the occasion of their return visit, and it is quite safe to say that the favorable impression then created by these clever society entertainers was intensified. Humorous and sentimental songs by Miss Wrighton, monologues, character and society sketches by Mr. BUascheck, and duets and sketches by ; both performers followed each other J without any break; in fact, there was j not one dull moment during the whole two hours that the entertainment lasted. I The repertoire is a very extensive and j varied one, as .the progremme rendered j showed, and- each item was warmly received, encores being enthusiastically de- j manded and ungrudgingly acceded to. ! Perhaps the best of Miss Wrighton's j many numbers were Gounod's charming | little French "Berceuse" and "Come back ) to Erin." Mr. Blascheek was at home in all his items, but his wonderful histrionic j abilities were perhaps best displayed in j ft Shakespearian declamation from i Henry VTIL, "Cardinal Wolsley's speech { to Cromwell: 'Farewell, a long farewell, I to all my greatness,'" which held the j audience spellbound. His impersonation I of a country J.P., rendered by special •! request, lost nothing by repetition. The ) concerted items were all of high merit, j Over thirty items were given during the I evening, and the fact that the audience was, like Oliver Twist, asking for "more," speaks volumes for the entertainers. The sympathetic accompani- I ments by Miss Wrighton were a feature. The etage was tastefully arranged as a drawing room, the furniture being provided by MesSTs. Baker and Co.
