At a meeting of the Taranaki Metropolitan Committee on Tuesday night an application for a trainer's license and one for a jockey's license were refused. A. Rhodes' training license was suspended for a month for knowingly employing Hector Gray, whose name appeared on the list of disqualified persons in tha official calendar. R. Home, who wa» reported for having broken an engagement to ride, had his jockey's license cancelled. The committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club held a meeting on Tuesday night, when the Egmont Hockey Club wa« granted the use of the club's ground during fir.' hockey season for match purposes. The committee also decided to instal Hutchison's patent jockey scales.

TURF TOPICS. (By '• Moturoa"). Mr. C. 1. Parker fi'contly purchased Multifiil ft (lisboni" for 25*0gns. . The son of Multiform li?h sired some fine stock in that district. The price paid for Oovoncttwl was 150 guineas, and the chestnut son of Coronet was a cheap horse. Blue Mountain will probably have to find a new name in 'Stralia, a.s a neddy bearing that cognomen won the Caulfield Grand National in 1887. The consistent Waikehua will be given another chance to distinguish himself in the Heretaunga Handicap at Hastings, in which he is burdened with only a couple of pounds above the minimum. Sir Geo. Clifford has won nearly every big race canted in New Zealand, but so far bearers of the blue and gold chequers have not added a New Zealand Cup to their victories. This year Sir George has three candidates for the big handicap. The Multiform mare, Nightfall, who raced successfully in the Stead colors in Australasia, foaled twins to Marco in England this season, but both died. Miss Soult, who raced as Gloss in this country, is carrying plenty of weight at Sydney pony meetings, but so far has shaped poorly. Big fields abound over there and a pony must be a smart beginner to ha*re a chance of scoring. Descendants of the Auckland Cup winner, Nonette, represent "class" in Queensland. More than half the field in the Central Queensland Derby were sired by the ex-New Zealander, and the three placed horses were all got by him. Weights for tEe Napier Park winter meeting are due on Friday.
