Messenger, the Rugby League threequarter, in ten matches this season has scored four tries and kicked 4G goals, out of the 223 points scored by his team. MATCHES IN THE CENTRES. Auckland, June 16. The senior Rugby matches were continued in fine weather, but the grounds were a trifle heavy. College Rifles, who are in the competition for the first time, created a surprise by drawing with City, the leading team, after a fine game. City scored a try, and College Rifles kicked a goal from a mark. Marist Bros. Old Boys beat Ponsonby by 12 points to 3. Parnell beat University by 6 points to nil. Marist Bros, are now equal with City in points for the championship. Christchurch, June 16. Following are the senior football results:—Merivale (18) r. Linwood (3); Albion (11) v. Old Boys (9); Christchurch (30) v. Marists (3); Sydenham (12) v. Canterbury College (0). Dunedin, June 16. - Zingari (15) defeated Kaikorai (8);' University (11) beat Alhambra (8); Pirates (17) beat Taieri (0); Southern] (25) beat Union (6); Dunedin (9) beat Port (0). Palmerston North, June 16. The senior Rugby fixtures resulted:— Southern (15) v. Northern (4); Eastern (18) v. County (6); Western (4) y. Feildi*g (8). WANGANUI MATCHES. (Own Correspondent.) The Wanganui rep. team being away at Hawera, there was little doing in Rugby football at Wanganui on Saturday. Junior matches were played in three divisions, teams winning by 41, 37, 24 and 22 points—cricket scores—in all cases to nil! The crowd went to Cook's Gardens, where plenty of excitement was dished up in the scrambling League game, City v. Eastern. It was a brilliant gallery exhibition, each side scoring and leading practically in turn, and when the whistle finally sounded it was City's turn in the lead, and the score showed 19 to 15 in their favor. Siddells was the hero of the match, scoring three tries and booting as many goals for the beaten team.
The following will represent Star Juniors in their match against Tukapa Juniors at New Plymouth on Thursday 11 it, commencing at 3 o'clock—Harvey, Mason, Tunbridge, Gleeson, Haldane, K.illot, Crockett, Clark, Low, Page, McGahey, Hunter, Johnstone and Plumb.
THE LEAGUE GAME. NEW ZEALAND DEFEATS AUCKLAND. Auckland, June 16. In League football the New Zealand team, which will leave for Sydney tomorrow, met an Auckland representative team in a brilliant exposition of the Northern Union game. At half time Auckland led by 10 to 7. In the second half New Zealand got into better combination and played grandly, eventually! winning by 38 points to 16.
