CRICKET
THE SPLIT IN THE CAMP, By Cable —Press Association—Copyright ! Melbourne, June 17. At a social, where a substantial cheque was tendered to McAlister, Mr. Bean, member of the Board of Control, i stated that six days prior to certain players informing the board that they would only go to England on certain , conditions, the following cable was sent to England: "Three independent bodies are endeavoring to form a team under the auspices of the Melbourne dub. Inform lis if this would obtain the approval of Marylebone." A reply was received that only a team authorised by the board would be accepted. This showed that the real issue was not whether the board or the players were right, but whether the board should control cricket. Probably if a reply had been received before the time fixed for the players to give their decision, the majority would have gone to England. SURREY v. AUSTRALIA. ' Received 17, 9.5 p.m. ' London, June 17. i The Surrey team to play the Australians will be selected from the following:—Bird, Major Bush, Hayward, Hobbs, Strudwick, Hitch, Rushby, W. J. Abel, Smith, Ducat, Piatt, and Harrison. !
