THE DREDGE MANCHESTER

A HEARTLESS HOAX. By Cabin—Press Association—Copyright. Received 17, 12.35 a.m. Sydney, June 16. A bottle has been found on the beach at Thirroul with a note inside signed "Jones, fireman, Dredge Manchester," dated May 24, stating that the dredge was 300 miles south-east of Lord Howe Island. The message reads: "Disabled, broken down, leaking; won't last 48 hours." It is believed to be a hoax, as no fireman named Jones was on the dredge.
