A half-caste at Acffelong named Conquist was suffering from dementia, and Sergeant Deprez went to take charge of the sufferer, who opened the door a little and defied the police, poking out a pea-rifle. He shot the sergeant in the groin. The sergeant replied with a revolver, killing Conquist.
