SENSATIONAL OUTRAGE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. St. Petersburg, June 14. At Lodz, Poland, five robbers stopped a tramear, shot and killed the motorman and two Jewish merchants, and wounded two men and a woman. They then stole from their victims a thousand roubles and escaped. Mounted police, gendarmes and dogs are pursuing them.
THE AUCKLAND JEWEL ROBBERY. By Telegraph—Press Association. TimaTU, Last Night. Detective Fahey, on a Police Gazette description, arrested here this afternoon a man who gave the name of George Simonds, on a charge of stealing diamond rings from an Auckland jeweller a few weeks ago, by receiving them from a messenger at Mr. Nathan's gate, having ordered the rings by telephone as for Mr. W. Nathan. He made no reply when charged. The prisoner at the lock-up was further charged, and admitted passing two valueless cheques for £8 and £lO respectively on two Timaru publicans.
