THE HOME RULE BILL

THE NONCONFORMIST CONSCIENCE. WHITEWASH AND TAR. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 10, 5.5 p.m. London, June 15. A great Unionist demonstration at the Albert Hall protested against the Home Rule Bill. The Rev. Mr. Watkinson declared that the Nonconformist Commoners had ceased to represent Puritanism and become slaves to party. He criticised the Nonconformist divines for supporting Mome Rule. One of them, in a pamphlet, produced a bucket of whitewash for the Nationalists and a bucket of tar for their co-religionists. For the Nonconformists to descend from their lofty level and join the red-handed moonlighters for the sake of political power was an unparallelled degradation. Bishop Ossory said: 'if you can expel us from our citizenship and heritage, our sons will not repeat the mistake of exaggerated loyalty."
