Mr. Fisher is jubilant at the reception by the caucus of his proposed maternity allowance of £5 per child born in Australia. This Bill will be introduced early. About £600,000 will be required annually if all mother* apply. The Naw South Wales Gorernment is simultaneously considering a scheme to invite the co-operation of friendly societies in making a grant to mothers before and after birth to cover living expenses.
