EGMONT VILLAGE. !rrc«D Our Own Ooirespondeat.) ' After a lapse of about two months the. Village hall once .again opened its doors to the public, the attraction heing the ■School concert. Despite the unfavorable weather, the attendance was good. Mr Morton occupied the chair. I'he first part of the programme consisted of songs, etc, as follows:—Overture, Mr G. March's orchestra; action song, the school children; recitation (action)), school children; song.Mr Earp; song, Mrs Mcßetli; song, Miss Laing; piano and violin duet, Misses Smi.h; song, Rev. Houchen; song, Miss Henwood; song, Mr Earp (encored); recitation, Miss Winnie Olson; reading, Mr Morton (encored); pianoforte duet, Mr Marsh and Miss Smith; piano solo, Mrs Matthews;. The second half consisted of a farce, the caste of characters being a,s follows: Mr WatmufT, Mr. G. Dewhirst; his wife, Mrs Watmuff, Mrs Mcßeth; their daughter, Emily Watmuff, Miss Moßeth;Ferdinand Swift (a nephew) Mr Frank Dewhirst; Walter Litherland (Emily's lover) Mr Gordon Marsh. All did justice to their respective parts, and by the applause accorded them it was evident that the audience fully appreciated their efforts. The chairman then presented the prizes to the children. The singing of "God Save the King" brought to an end one of the most enjoyable concerts held in the Tillage. The floor was then cleared for dancing, which was kept going till ahout two o'clock. Mr Geo. Marsh assisted by others supplied the music for the dance. Great praise is due to the teacher, Mrs Dewhirst, and those persons who so ably assisted ill making the concert a success. The proceeds amounted to £B. Mr A. Burrows, manager of Mr R. Burrows' butchery department, is- ahout to leave us. Since he has resided in this district his good hearted and obliging manner has earned the praise of all those with whom he came in contrct. We ~\vish him and his wife joy and prosperity wherever they may go. Mr Carter, the local creamery manager, is away on his fortnight's holiday. Mr A. Taylor is managing the creamery during his absence. Mr Jim Henderson has been appointed manager of the Kaimiro creamery.
