The Norwegian Consul at Auckland offered to find additional seamen for the vessel, but the captain declined assistance, and, as the barque is a foreign vessel, the Customs authorities had no jurisdiction over her, and could not prevent her from Bailing short-handed. The six men who deserted have remained in New Zealand.
