NATIVE LANDS

DANNEVIRKE RESOLUTIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dannevirke, Tuesday. The Chamber of Commerce last evening discussed the -waste of the money of natives consequent on the realisation of Maori land, and decided to draw the attention of the Native Minister to the matter with the suggestion that where natives dispose of land in future the proceeds be invested in trust, so that the income is secured to the natives, or that but a small portion of the purchase money be paid by the intending purchasers, the balance to remain on mortgage held by trustees. It also decided to recommend that Government valuers be instructed to report on areas of native land suitable for dairying, and that the Government be asked to legislate immediately to proclaim any such area against alienation either by lease or sale, in greater quantities than 150 acres.
