HONORING THE BRAVE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, June 10, Captain Rostron, of the Carpathia, has been presented with gold medals by the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Societies. INSUFFICIENCY OF BOATS. London, June 10. The Titanic enquiry vras continued today. The Right Hon. A. Carlisle, consultant and adviser to Messrs. Harland and Wolff, said that he was told by the Merchant Shipping Act Committee that the Titanic was insufficiently boated before she sailed. She should have had forty-eight boats instead of sixteen. He also communicated this intelligence to the owners. Mr. Blackett, a naval architect, said that the Titanic sank owing to the bulkheads giving way. The problem of bulkheads was still unsolved.
THE TITANICS BOATS. DAMAGING ADMISSIONS. Received 11, 11.35 p.m. London, June 11. The Cunard Company has been refused recompense for picking up the Titanic's survivors. The White Star Company has presented gifts ranging from 100 gs. to the captain to a month's pay to the crew. Mr. Carlisle stated that he showed the White Star Company his plans providing for more boats on the Titanic. It rested with the company to decide the matter. He signed the report of the advisory committee of the Board of Trade, recommending fewer boats than the Titanic carried. He admitted that it was difficult to explain why he signed it, as he did not approve of the number. Mr. Havelock Wilson also signed it, though he did not approve of the report.
