GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. A deputation of the Society of Architects of New Zealand waited on the Hon. G. W. Russell to-day and complained that such work as hospital and other buildings was not let on the competitive system, Mr. Russell replied that the Government had nothing to do with the matter, beyond supervision of the work and the exercise of control, inasmuch as the State provided half the cost of such works. After a long interview Mr. Russell said he was willing to issue a circular to hospital boards suggesting to them that where new buildings were to be erected they might see their way to call for competitive do«i<rns. The deputation accepted this as satisfactory.
