THE WAIHI STRIKE.

AN ACTIVE CAMPAIGN

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. An official statement issued by the Federation of Labor states that the executive has decided to conduct an active campaign on behalf of the Waihi and Reefton men, and will promote public meetings in all centies for the purpose of securing support to the men on strike and the locked out men. yhe executive has sent to Australia a circular, in which an appeal is made for financial assistance. The executive has sent Messrs. Webb, Parry and Fraser to Waihi to conduct he fight, and has delegated Mr. Semple to tour the West Coast and Mr. Howard to tour the South. Other members will act in various centres.

AN EMPHATIC PROTEST. Waihi, Last Night. A a mass meeting of miners on Monday the attitude of the Federation in declining to accept the mine owners' conditions, that the Miners' Union and Engine-drivers' Union must settle their own differences before a conference could take place, was approved. The following resolution was passed at the meeting, and was handed over by the chairman, Mr. W. McLennan, for publication, with a statement that it had been carried without dissent:—"That this meeting of the Waihi Workers' Union resents and emphatically denies the imputation circulated by' the capitalistic press of the Dominion that the strike has been originated and is being conducted by a few individuals, and considers that the allegation that the workers are being led is an insult to the intellect of the workers here."

CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. Wellington, Last Xiglit. A conference between the New Zealand rioldnini'.* O'-ners' Association and the Federation of Labor will be held at Waihi on Tuesday. June 18, to discuss th" -differences at Reefton as well as thine at Waihi, and the of the new agreement between the V*a ihi companies and the Miners' Union. The Mine-owners' Association has absolutely declined to discuss the differences between the two unions at Waihi.
