Tod Sloan, the well-known jockey, commenting on Reiff's riding of the" Derby winner, said that English jockeyship was a disgrace to any country. Eight out of 120 jockeys engaged in the Derby were either American, French, or colonial. The riding of the English boyg displayed neither skill nor nerve.
