It is alleged that his defalcations are between ,£60,000 and £IOO,OOO. THE DOUCET SALE. Paris, June 7. The Doucet sale realised £398,280. Loudon's bust of his ten-year-old daughter was sold for £IB,OOO, Chardin's "Bouteillles de Cavon" brought £12,020, and Franz Gouards' "The Sacrifice of the Minotaur" £14,400. ANOTHER TAXI ACCIDENT. Received 7, 9 p.m. Sydney, June 7. In a second case of a motor being driven through drilling cadets without injuring anyone the driver was heavily fined. The Defence Department is adopting measures to prevent a recurrence of the accidents.
THE QUARRY ACCIDENT. Received 7, 9 p.m. Sydney, June 7. At the inquest on the victims of the quarry accident a verdict of accidental death was returned, there .being insufficient evidence to show the cause of the accident. The jury added a rider stating that allowing work to proceed in a quarry where holes were being charged was most dangerous, and asking for regulations to suppress the practice.
