. THE OTAGO BRANCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The-, twelfth annual meeting of the Otago 'branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held to-night, Mr. D. M. Phillip presiding. In moving the adoption of the annual report tlie chairman referred to the dearth of farm labor, and said that he thought the Qpvernment should establish colleges for educating young men in farming. Farmers also should educate ypung inert 1 ' in the proper methods of scientific fanning, and do all in their power to help them on. If the young men were treated better they would make better farmers. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr. Phillip was re-elected president. A mojtion was proposed urging on Parliament the necessity for encouraging the immigration of farm laborers, and the question was remitted to the Domimion conference. A motion was earred supporting the Territorial scheme and congratulating the Minister of Defence on his firm stand in regard to the Defence Act. A request that the law be altered in regard to horse dealing, as at present notheft is committed until a horse is offered for sale, was remitted to the Dominion conference. The provincial executive was recommended to consider the advisability of taking up accident as well as fire insurance. A resolution opposing the putting of manures into paper-lined bags will be sent to the Dominion conference. It was decided that potato bags be paid for according to quality. A remit in favor of appointing an organiser will be sent to the Dominion conference; also one urging the reduction of railage on imported hardwood timber to the rate for New Zealand timber. A motion in favor of the compulsory cutting of noxious weeds on Crown lands was referred to the executive. A motion congratulating the Government on its afforestation work, and urging the more vigorous prosecution of the same, was referred to the Dominion conference.
