EDUCATION COMMISSION
SECONDARY EDUCATION. By Telegraph—Press. Association. Auckland, Thursday. Giving evidence before the Education Commission, Mr. Mahon, of the Grammar School staff, was of opinion that the Government grants to secondary education were too small, the salaries of teachers needed increasing, and the classes were too large. He suggested the modification of manual and technical instruction, and also said that examinations were overdone. Speaking of scholarships, he said that country boys should be paid an allowance to enable them to attend secondary schools in town.
