TAUMAKUNUI.

A sitting of the Taumarunui Licensing Committee at Waitara on Wednesday was attended by Mr. A. Crook, S.M. (in the chair), and Messrs. R... H. Pigott, W. Birdling, R. Wells, G. Pearce, and A. Soholes. The following applications were dealt with:—Masonic Hotel, Waitara, transfer of license from Margaret Cusack to -John Harrington—Granted. Mr. A. H. Johnstone appeared for applicants. Licenses were granted as follows: Masonic Hotel, J. Harrington; Waitara Hotel, Alexander Kerr; Club Hotel, Kate Jury; Urcnui Hotel, John Bethune. Mr. Johnstone appeared for Harrington and Mr. G. Grey for the other applicants. Permission was granted to the licensees to put out their lights at 10 p.m. The following notice of motion was tabled by Mr. A. Sciholes: "That, in the opinion of this committee, the time has arrived for a change in the system now existing in the King Country, and the Committee urges that the whole of the liquor supplied to residents or others in that area be placed under municipal or State control."
