OTAGO WINTER SHOW
THE DAIRY EXHIBITS. Bell Block factory was the only Taranaki factory whose name appears in the dairy produce classes at the Dunedin Winter Show, and Mr. Rutherford entered in the three butter classes. In neither, however was he successful. In one class, with 93% points, Bell Block cam -i third to Cheltenham and Kairauga. Both of these factories competed here, Cheltenham getting a second on one occasion, and being below Bell Block on the others. Kauranga was below on all three. The other two classes were won by the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Company, which was equally successful here. The winners' points were respectively 95% and 95, Bell Block securing 92% and 93%.
Three Taranaki factories entered for the average grading competition, and in this Bell Block was second with an average of 94.49 to the Taieri and Peninsula Company with 95.07. Lepperton, 94.44, was third, and Tikorangi 94.05. In the average grade for the season at Moturoa Leperton headed the list for Taranaki with 94.28, Bell Block being second with 94.22, whilst Tikorangi was fifth with 93.95. As the Dunedin judging for this average test is compiled from Moturoa grade tests the reversal between Bell Block and Lepperton may not appear consistent, but it must be borne in mind that when compiling the average grade for Taranaki the whole season from September to March 31 is covered, whereas the Dunedin award covers a period from December to March, i.e., during the flush of the season.
