The general markets are very unsettled on account of the continuation of the strike. The employers have decided to resist the strike. New Zealand meat and dairy produce cargoes cannot be discharged. Traders are drawing from stocks at present in store. Tile Government has been requested to assist in sustaining the food supply by affording protection during delivery from the ships. Prices are nominally high for anything available. Mutton.—Canterbury, 4%d; North Island, 4%d. Lamb.—Canterbury, 7%d. Butter.—Choicest New Zealand, 115s. The supply for Home and the Continent meets the demand.

Cheese.—The average price for the week for finest New Zealand is 78s. English cheddar, 925.

Hemp—The market is steady. Spot New Zealand, good fair grade, £2l 10s; forward shipment about the same. The marteet is a shade weaker for Manila. Spot, fair current Manila, £2l 15s; forward shipment, £22. The output from Manila for the week was 34,000 bales. Wheat.—The market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers. Oats.—The market is dull. Very little business is doing. Peas.—The market is firm, with an upward tendency. Beans.—The market is very quiet. Wool.—The market remains firm. Current quotations for Bradford tops: 36's, low crossbreds, Is l%d; 40's, low crossbreds, Is 1 Vad; 44's, medium crossbreds, Is 2V,d; 50's, lialf-breds, Is sM>d; 56's, quarterbreds, Is 7%d; 60's, merinos, 2s Id.
