j ALLIANCE CONVENTION. Melbourne, June 4. The Alliance Convention resolved in favor of prohibition and the non-em-ployment of barmaids. RIOT AT A CIRCUS. Sydney, June 4. A riot was started by a squabble of some employees with a circus, some of the men wishing admission. Strong detachments of police were required to quell the disturbance.
DROUGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, June 4. The drought continues in the interior. In some districts lambs have been killed to save the ewes. Heavy losses of stock are reported. STRIKE AT A LEVEE. Sydney, June 4. A feature of the Governor-General's birthday levee was the absence of State Ministers. Mr. McGowen was present in the capacity of a private citizen, and Speaker Willis in a similar capacitv.
